Jeepers Creepers Come Back with Fashion's Heavy Hitters

Creepers shoes are making a major comeback and they have some heavy fashion hitters backing their return. Models both on and off duty like Gisele Bundchen and Bahati Prinsloo have been seen wearing these rocker inspired shoes.

image

This fashionable footwear has also been featured heavily in editorial layouts and what stands out most is the versatility of a shoe that seems very masculine.  It can be styled with complicated or simple looks but I especially love it with a long casual dress.

image

With creepers being one of the “it” shoes they are available in almost every color, and in both modern and traditional styles. Try Doc Martens for an updated color palette or a sleek patent leather version from ASOS if you want to limit the bulk. And for a traditional creeper with a more edgy look, check out good old Sears. Color Watch Wednesday- Beautiful Chaos with @MarlaCielo

When life hands you lemons…you create a beautiful mind-blowing lemonade punch!

Color, patterns, and texture are alive! Depending on our mood we can wear them all together and be loud and proud, or separately and be subtle and seductive. With all the trends and colors that are swirling around our city like a beautiful open canvas, it was only natural that an artist like Marla Cielo discovered how to take our paint and create fashion.

Marla first paints on a canvas and then has that canvas shredded and woven together to make anything from wallets and ipad holders to cross body clutches and bags. It is where fashion and art meet.

We love her stuff, check out her collection and maybe click on one to be yours at http://www.lionesquestyle.com/collections/shop-marla-cielo

Transform into Fall with N:F:P

I was transported into a whimsical, cozy dreamlike world at the N:F:P show last week.

Emerging designer Gail Travis who has formerly worked with Calvin Klein and Vera Wang took us into the world of a girl who has just discovered a New Form Perspective.

Inspired by architecture and sculpture, N:F:P’s aesthetic is one of a highly designed, multifunctional piece of art. Every piece flows and her knitwear can be transformed, snapped, layered, or folded into something totally new and different.

image

One of my favorites was a white knitted scarf that evolved into a cropped sweater, a turtleneck, then into a shrug. Her felt dresses were also something I could see myself wearing, they looked super comfortable and feminine.

image

Meet Gail in person at RS POP Shop or shop her online beginning October 3rd at www.lionesquestyle.com.

Designer Laura Smalls Makes a Closing Night Impression on New York Fashion Week

On Thursday, September 15th Laura Smalls unveiled her S/S 2012 “Legacy” runway, anchored by her signature collection of dresses featuring both slim-shaped and flare silhouettes. Her looks incorporated lots of draping details, patchwork, color blocks, and appliqué details while also playing with striped patterns. She was right on trend with color, infusing a palette of sun bursting yellows, blood orange hues and green brights complimented by a chic collection of Manolo Blahnik heels.

“Laura Smalls has the ability to register modern contemporary fashion that is a throwback to ladylike elegance when dressing up for any moment in a day meant something”, said Vogue’s Contributing Editor Andre Leon Talley post show. “Think Sophisticated Lady”, he continues, “Vibrant color for spring is the new trend. Smalls puts the vitality of saturated celadon green in satin evening dress with embroidered petals at the hem for a dramatic red carpet entrance maker. She has fused spring with the vibrant strong color as in her peony pink Sophia Loren dress, as well as great style in little black dresses that evoke the elegance of an American original Grace Kelly. Her fluid, jersey dresses are outstanding; she underscores her silhouettes with a nuance of fine dressmaking. I love her sense of drape in asymmetrical jersey dinner dresses. Smalls never forgets to mark her silhouette with a flattering drape.”

Since beginning her independent designs in 2009 with her “30 Dresses” collection, it is expected that Smalls will put on a runway that exudes elegance and sophistication and her fifth series delivered that and more. The audience was filled with the “who’s who” of New York and fashion in front row attendance at the luxurious Centurion Condominiums penthouse setting, including Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley, Italian Vogue’s Bethann Hardison, supermodel Chanel Iman, music icon Valerie Simpson, opera sensation Kathleen Battle and actress Grace Hightower De Niro.

Color Watch Wednesday- The Metallic Runway

This Style Lionesses at Lion’esque have been very busy this week. And aside from the madness of the wonderful color prints from Missoni for Target this week, one of the fall color trends I love this season is Metallics. Not the in-your-face-where are my sunglasses ‘cause your blinding me kind, but a nice subtle sexy shimmer. A soft metallic shine that at a glimpse, makes you a little happier inside. From Chanel’s new metallic nail polish colors, to handbags and shoes, you can just about find metallics for every part of your ensemble.

Here are some wonderful collections from this season:

image

(From Left to Right Marc by Marc Jacobs . Viktor and Rolf . Just Cavalli . Zac posen . Calvin Kelin . Balmain . Alexander Wang . Comme des Garcons)

If you can’t get on board just yet, don’t worry from the shows we have seen this week for Spring 2012, the shine will not die out.

image

We love one particular designer we discovered thanks to the Lawrence Blake group, who has added metallics into her tailored, business style look. Her name is Veronica Spadaro, see more of her collection at Veronicaspadaro.com.

Fashion Forward Opposites that Attract

Two trends that I am loving for fall are plaid and sequins and what I’m loving even more is combining these very opposing styles. Take a look and you may not believe how naturally they come together. Elle UK styled a sequin tee with a plaid pleated skirt and Yigal Azrouel showed a plaid coat with a sequin tuxedo top on the runway.

image

The plaid and sequin options are plentiful this season and there doesn’t seem to be a bad way to bring them together. For day a luxurious plaid oversized sweater and sequin legging make this high fashion look seem super approachable.

image

For evening try an ultra glamorous long sequin dress with a tartan cropped jacket. This particular combination feels like a refreshed take on the pairing of evening dresses with leather jackets that we have seen in seasons past.

image

And finally if you can’t wait until the weather cools to get these two looks to connect, pair a sequin tank top with a casual plaid cotton pant. These two may have been no where near each other in your closet before but they will be inseparable from here on out.

Must Have Threads Thursday - The McKenzie Story

What do you get when you mix Swarovski crystals, distressed fabric and diamond print? Those ingredients will come together to make a signature tie from up and coming designer and image consultant McKenzie Liautud for his self-titled brand ‘McKenzie.’ McKenzie seeks to do what only a few designers have attempted to do: reinvent men’s neckwear.

image

As with the Dior Butterfly bowtie, which completely redefined such a traditional men’s accessory, McKenzie adds his own twist by “experimenting with fabrics not necessarily meant for neckwear.” Liautud is building McKenzie to be “an international men’s accessories company that celebrates individuality and draws inspiration from inspired artists and urban living.” Seen on the likes of international musician Wyclef Jean, Celebrity Chef and Owner of new NY hotspot Red Rooster, Marcus Samuelson and even Oprah featured Violinist Ken Ford, Liautud’s neckwear are clearly making a break in the industry

image

Caption: “It’s an uncomfortable thing when it’s something that is familiar that is strange.”

Liautud explained the importance of wearing a necktie and aims to excite the youth and popular culture that may steer away from traditional neckwear in their quest to be different. “The concept was designing a line of accessories to add flare and spark to men’s wardrobe, says Liautaud. “As a stylist I’ve always had access to tons of designers and I felt like there was need for an innovative accessories line.” .” Liautuds current line for McKenzie is French titled and inspired ‘Je Ne Sais Quoi’ means having an intangible quality that is distinct and attractive but isn’t definable. The collection includes neckties, ascots, cummerbunds, brooches, and pocket squares.

image

Liautud has plans to grow the brand and has a mission to “Make men just as excited about accessories as women are,” says Liautud. “Women have always had access to exciting accessories such as belts and bags that can completely change or add value to a particular look.” With plans to add belts, pendants, brooches, sunglass cases and even a luxury men’s furnishing line including wallets, undergarments and lounge wear, it’s safe to say McKenzie plans to redefine men’s accessories!

You can currently purchase McKenzie at www.jsqluxe.com or on Fashions Night Out (Sept. 8th) at the Hampton’s Daze Magazine All Nautical Affair on the Jewel Yacht.

I’ll be there.. look forward to seeing you.

Color Watch Wednesday -Wet Nails For A Great Cause

As some of you know I’ve had a nail obsession for a while now. Currently I have a three color glitter gradation on my ring and pinky fingers and the rest…well I think you get the picture. It’s one of the few places on your body you can have full temporary creative expression, and when your over it, there’s a fresh blank canvas waiting for your next masterpiece.

image

I have recently fell in love with the Ginger and Liz Colour Collection, my favorite at the moment is “Welcome to the Jungle” a metallic green…hot.

image

They’ve got my affection not only because their colors are amazing, vegan friendly, and toxin free, but because their philosophy is based on taking care of the beauty within. They believe the beauty on the outside cannot shine without the true beauty on the inside being cared for first.

image

At the end of fashion week, Ginger and Liz Colour Collection will be giving away free manicures for the event Shop for Success, hosted by Y.E.S! New York benefitting the non for profit Dress for Success Worldwide. Dress For Success, provides disadvantaged women who cannot afford clothing for an interview, suits and job opportunities. They will be amongst many other brands for the two day event.

As fashion week approaches, let’s not forget how blessed we are, that there are people who cannot afford to dress well, and people who cannot afford clothing at all.

The New LBD aka Leather Babe Dresses

Leather dresses were all over the runways for fall and celebrities are already showing them on the red carpet, as below by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jen Aniston. The old LBD, “little black dress”, has had a complete transformation and is now the “leather babe dress” for the modern age.

image

The reason that I’m not calling it a “leather black dress” is because of the amazing red hues that are also being shown. The ultra luxurious red leather dress options are amazingly tailored with plenty of draping. (left to right) Gucci leather dress, saks.com, $4,700 and Nina Ricci leather dress, barneys.com, $700.

image

If not color, what we are seeing in common with leather dresses for fall is that they are cut in conservative silhouettes, either with high necklines, feminine pleats or in business-style shifts. There seems to be a move away from biker inspired studded leather of the past to a softer more ladylike version for the modern woman/babe. ; )
