While companies such as Liones’que Style, Gilt Group and Shop Style have continued to push the frontier of the shopping experience in the technology space, department stores aka traditional brick and mortar businesses, have lagged behind. Well now they now joining the game with smart phone apps!
This month Nordstrom released their first app for the iphone to enhance the customer’s mobile shopping experience. The app features product scanning capabilities, a “Your Style” tab to personalize the experience and a store locater. After taking the app for a test drive we found it clean, easy to use and images load in a flash.
The latest Macy’s app release was November 15, 2011, and features, a new look and feel, improved navigation, enhanced product images, barcode and QR code scan feature, and the ability to manage your account including bill pay. Neiman Marcus Group is testing the waters with two specially apps, Neiman Marcus Gifts, and Today’s Shoe – Bergdorf Goodman.

This year I have had the pleasure of getting to know designer Payal Luthra who designs luxury neckwear made of the finest Mongolian cashmere.
Her fall collection combines refined cuts with an innovative use of draped folds and angled lines, with equestrian-inspired leather straps, gold buckle hardware, and patent leather bands that embellish the pieces with linear accents. Each piece can be worn in a variety of ways, giving the wearer creative options to brave the elements in elegant style.
This holiday season you can find her at Henri Bendel (Nov 21-27th) and then with us at RS POP Shop (Dec 2-31st!)
She situates her designs on the edges, fusing opposites that complement each other. Her forms inhabit the rare spaces between modern and traditional, East and West, structure and fluidity, and even clothing and jewelry.
What better gift for the holidays?!
Is it possible to develop an entire outfit around a bracelet? Let me answer that question with this outfit. But seriously, this leather cuff by Daniela Zagnolli set the theme for this whole ensemble. I wanted to put something together for less formal fall festivities that felt dressed up but also casual and comfortable. The bracelet lead the way but all of these items balance both roles so well.
Using luxurious fabrics in casual pieces, like velvet for the stretch band pants and sequins on the short cotton button down shirt, makes them look formal but not overwhelming. And the same formula works the other way by using casual textiles and distressing on typically precious items like jewelry, purses and shoes. So each item has the perfect balance of glamour and approachability, but together you have an outfit that tips the scales.

The last thing you would expect to see on a pair of underwear are the letters “F U”. But American designer Fu is doing just that with his new luxury men’s underwear line, FU e=fu8 Underwear.

Truly a product that you have to ‘feel’ to see the difference, made out of 95% cotton and 5% spandex, these aren’t just another pair of underwear. Fu makes sure each pair is made with high thread count, high quality luxury cotton that allows for a truly soft and comfortable feel. He has also added a touch of spandex to give them a nice stretch that contours to the sexy male physique.
“I understand that not everybody is going to be in the market for $25, $28 and $88 designer underwear,” says Fu. “But when you see an item made in New York City, there is an art going into the product, just like if you see something made in Italy or France. Based on the positive feedback from our “Timeless Tops” blog entry about turtlenecks, I plan to have reoccurring “timeless” themed entries throughout the year. Our next timeless spotlight is on the penny loafer. Clearly a classic on Grace Kelly (left above) and still a hot Hollywood staple on Diane Kruger (right above). Two equally appealing takes and I especially like the scarf in Diane’s updated version. So let’s check out more current street style focused on this favorite footwear…
There are some aspects of styling your loafers that have been maintained since their initial popularity, like wearing them with a tapered pant, adding a small cuff and remembering to put in your penny. However, to make this classic feel fresh again, our new school wearers have updated the look with pops of color and current accessories.

Who doesn’t love a black and white milkshake? We do! Fashion loves it. Color watch Wednesdays presents: The black and white story. Black and white are both timeless, classic colors, or not-colors for you color theorists out there. Either way its a definite staple in our closet. We all have that sexy black something and that certain white piece that we hardly wear because we don’t want to get it dirty. ;-) We are saying, mix them together! Since both are right how can you ever go wrong? You will look elegant, timeless, and most importantly, HOT.

Since our bout of unseasonable snow in NYC last week, my mind has been focused on all things warm and cozy!
The best winter accessories are ones that can be both fashionable and functional.
My very favorite winter warriors are hats. When you are wrapped in a coat and your well thought out ensemble is all covered up, you can still share your flare with a sharp chapeau.

It’s hard to find out a good jacket that isn’t too edgy but still stands out these days. But I think this designer hit’s it right on the head!
These jackets are by Johnny Love, who recently presented his Spring 2012 collection here in NYC with the help of Yellow Fever and high profile guests such as Jay Z. Created by Norwegian couple Mikkel and Hege Eriksen, Johnny Love combines contemporary classic style with an urban edge.

And, Joining the eco-friendly movement, Levi’s has revolutionized their manufacturing process and introduced a new line of ‘Water-Less’ jeans.
According to Levi’s their new finishing process is allowing them to cut back on 16 million liters of water, yet deliver the same stylish jeans. Levi’s has partnered with water.org and joined the preserve water movement, pleading customers to wash their jeans only once a week and possibly save over 800 million liters of water!
